Mission Statement
1) Unite Non Sport orientated KMA'ists
Mu Shin Kwan translates as 'School of Warrior Spirit'. As such, the Federations purpose is to offer a venue for non-sport KMA's instructors and their schools, free of the politics, high fees and discrimination that pervade many of the sport oriented organizations. The Federation is open to all traditional Korean arts such as Kong Soo Do, Tae Kwon Do, Tang Soo Do, Hapkido, Kwon Bup etc that focus on the self defense aspects of the art they teach. Federation schools may, at their discretion, participate in sporting events however the sports training must be separate from the self defense training. They are not one and the same.
2) Centralized Ranking authority and verification
The Federation serves as the centralized ranking authority for self-defense oriented Korean martial arts. There are sufficient instructors within the Federation to evaluate and promote in the various traditional KMA's. All memberships and promotions are recorded for verification within the Federation rolls and listed on the International Dan registry for verification purposes.
3) Non Political Ranking Advancement
Politics are not tolerated within the Federation. Either someone has the skills to wear a certain rank, or they do not. Good ole boy or back door promotions are not part of this Federation. Individuals are evaluated prior to their memberships being approved. Tests are administered as appropriate, by a qualified Federation instructor. The Federation will not discriminate on the basis of sex, age or ethnic origin. As mentioned previously, an applicant either has self defense skills or they do not.
4) Affordable Recognition and Advancement Opportunities
Fees are set at one price, there is no sliding scale the higher one progresses.
5) Open Learning Cooperative
The Federation uses www.martialwarrior.com as its meeting place to discuss the arts. In addition, continuing education materials are offered to Federation members. Cooperation and cross-training are encouraged among the membership.
6) No School Interference
The Federation has no interest in interfering with the day-to-day operation of your school. Number of forms, belts, time-in-grade etc is up to the individual instructor provided it meets the Federation minimum standards of training.
7) Curriculum Assistance
Instructors that are involved in a KMA that is sport centered but desire to add a TRUE self defense element to the training will receive curriculum assistance. When sufficient progress has been demonstrated, Federation membership will be entertained.
